Con Alma Health Foundation grants focus on ensuring that all people have full and equal access to opportunities that enable them to lead healthy lives. To that end, the Foundation awards grants each year to support nonprofits’ efforts to improve their communities’ health.
General Operating and Project Grants – Supporting health systems strategies to address the needs of our diverse communities (13 grants, totaling $242,500)
We congratulate the 2021 General Operating and Project Grant Recipients!
Cavern City Child Advocacy Center ($20,000) to support facilitation of quarterly meetings, advocacy, program coordination, and collaboration with providers for domestic violence/strangulation awareness and outreach, and a 24/7 hotline to access medical and victim advocacy information, referrals, and advice to allow immediate access to care
Child Counseling Center and Play Therapy Institute of New Mexico ($15,000) to support the Child Counseling Center and Play Therapy Institute’s Play Therapy Training Series, which provides high-quality professional development opportunities for therapists, social workers, school counselors, social service agencies and other mental health professionals who care for children across Northern New Mexico
Doña Ana Communities United ($20,000) to strengthen three interconnected core initiatives — time banking, social equity mapping, and Just Community radio — in partnership with underserved residents
Health Security for New Mexicans Campaign ($20,000) to provide interactive workshops, expert-led presentations, and other communication methods to help New Mexicans understand and become actively involved in the specifics of a plan that provides affordable, comprehensive health-care coverage
La Plaza De Encuentro Gathering Place ($20,000) to expand the capacity of the Home Health Aide project by creating viable avenues for immigrant leaders to shape the future direction of the field and access more equitable employment and educational opportunities in the home-health industry, and increasing the Program’s ability to engage collaborative partners
La Semilla Food Center ($20,000) to establish a state-wide Healthy Food Financing Initiative fund that will offer grants and low-interest and forgivable loans for local farmers, food hubs, and healthy food outlets as a way to increase access to local and nutritious food, create quality jobs, revitalize local economies, and diversify the state’s economy
NACA Inspired Schools Network ($20,000) to conduct a self-guided evaluation and strategic planning to look for gaps and opportunities to strengthen and expand evidence-based Social Emotional Learning tools with additional inclusion in curriculum, out-of-school time activities, and other learning and community-building activities for students, staff, administration and parents
New Mexico Black Leadership Council ($20,000) to focus on three critical areas to improve health outcomes and health equity within the Black communities in New Mexico: coalition building among medical providers and holistic health practitioners, a health promotion program focusing on chronic disease education, and peer-to-peer cultural competence training for health providers
Pegasus Legal Services for Children ($20,000) to interview current and former foster families to obtain quantitative and qualitative data about their experiences within the system to identify gaps and successes, and make recommendations to state and tribal officials for successfully placing Indigenous children with culturally appropriate placements in the child welfare system in accordance with the Indian Child Welfare Act
Southwest Women’s Law Center ($20,000) to support a communications specialist to help with grassroots engagement and robust communications to further statewide efforts of advocacy and education about the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act
Think New Mexico ($7,500.00) to support continuing public education, advocacy and organizing work to change state policy and effectively end predatory lending and strengthen financial literacy in New Mexico
Tribal Adaptive Organization ($20,000) to support the implementation of an evidence-based Wheelchair Basketball program that increases access to athletic activities and social functioning for youth with physical disabilities, and to share this program with other communities in New Mexico
United Voices for Newcomer Rights ($20,000) to collaborate with key networks, engage refugees as leaders, and develop policy briefs as a way to improve language access for refugees in Central NM through a strategic systems-change effort focused on expanding interpretation policies in the Albuquerque Public School District and University of New Mexico Hospital
